THE EYES OF THE LORD….. They are magnificent!!

The Bible teaches that we need to guard our eyes with all diligence. Why? It is because, the eyes of the Lord whom we serve as Christians, are supremely magnificent. The Master’s eyes require us to keep our eyes fitting to behold His glory. As I was meditating on this fact, the Lord taught me certain things which I have put down in this blog. The readers will find it engaging themselves in spiritual edification, I am confident. Here we go!

CREATING EYES

Genesis, the first book of the Holy Bible details first account of creation in its first chapter. Gen.1:3 says God ‘said’ and verse 4 says God ‘saw’. He spoke the creation into existence and He saw that it was ‘good’. (Amplified Bible : suitable, admirable). John 1:1-3 clearly indicates that Jesus is the Living Word through whom the worlds were created. All along the first chapter of Genesis the ‘speaking’ and ‘seeing’ of God gets repeated attention. How important it is for us to consider our Maker and Redeemer’s eyes!!! When humans whom God created have been enslaved by Satan to look for evil things and identify the lack in everything around, the creator God still looks for ‘good’ in His creation.

SUSTAINING EYES

Not only does God create, but He is looking for sustaining the created beings always. We read about the ‘great deluge’ of Noah’s time in chapter 6 of the book of Genesis. Though the people indulging in wickedness were destroyed, God saw ‘a just and a righteous Noah’. Noah found favour /grace in the eyes of the Lord. Since he walked in ‘habitual fellowship’ with God, he along with his family and a pair of all living species were protected within the ark. God saw the integrity of one man and showed grace to many because of him. The faithfulness of Jesus, the Son of God has granted all believers in Christ to stay secure within the ‘ark of Christ’ till the end of times and through eternity.

Gen. 16:13,14 is part of a narrative of the first theophany that Hagar, a slave girl witnessed. She was running away from her mistress, Sarai. In the wilderness God sees her and sends his angel to sustain her. She called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You are a God of seeing. She called the well where God met her as, Beer-lahai-roi meaning , ‘Well to the Living One who sees me. (El-roi)’. To the servant maid in flight, God appears to guide her about the future. Our God is a God of Hope. We His children are exhorted to ‘exult’ in hope. No situation is hopeless so long as we believe in the God of Hope.

DELIVERING EYES

Exo.3:7,8 talks about the Lord. ‘seeing’ the affliction of His chosen, the Israelites under the Egyptian bondage. He came down to deliver them from the oppressors. He saw and heard the cry of His children. He is deeply interested in the welfare of His children. He is not a distant God, who sits and watches things as they happen. At the right time, the time He appoints for deliverance from oppressing forces, He interferes ‘suddenly’. The God in whom we trust is a God of ‘suddenlys’!! Neh.9:9 mentions the prayer of Ezra. He read from the Book of Law to the Jews of the ‘second exodus’, who returned from the exile to Jerusalem, at the fasting and prayer he and Nehemiah arranged with the leaders, as they dedicated the rebuilt wall of the city. Ezra after centuries, recalls that the ‘Lord saw the affliction of their forefathers in Egypt and came down to deliver them’. How awesome is our God!! Let us be conscious of His ‘seeing’ come what may!!

SPIRIT- SEARCHING EYES

In I Sam 16:7 we read that Samuel was asked to anoint the second king over Israel since the first ever king rejected the Lord’s commands time and time again. King Saul proved to be a people pleaser all the time. He was more concerned about losing the people than the Lord who put him in charge of the very same people! God sends prophet Samuel to anoint the next one in line of His choice(David). He goes to Bethlehem and asks for the sons of Jesse, to choose the son to be anointed king. Samuel is looking for a well built attractive person, worthy-looking to occupy the king’s throne. The warrior sons of Jesse parade in front of him. God says ‘no’ to them. As Samuel is puzzled God tells him that ‘He looks not like man does; man looks at the appearance but God looks at the heart ( deep inner man ) the spirit of every person’.

In common terms ‘Man weighs the deeds but God weighs the intentions’. In my words, ‘Man looks at the WHAT, while God looks at the WHY behind every WHAT!’. Our God has soul-searching eyes. He can decipher whatever is going on inside of our hearts! No one needs to testify of the other to God. He knows us from a distance even. His eyelids test and prove the children of men. (Psa 11:4). His eyes will look with favor upon the faithful. (Psa 101:6). He will counsel us with eyes upon us. (Psa 32:8). The eyes of the Lord are on/toward the uncompromisingly righteous people. (Psa 34:15). The Father sees in secret to reward His children openly, so says our Lord Jesus himself. He looks upon the secret places of our spirit and soul. (Mt 6:4).

ROAMING EYES

We can never hide from God’s eyes. They roam all over the world analyzing the happenings and the people. It is not that He does not see. He is gracious for all to repent from wickedness. He just cannot look upon and ignore sin/ wickedness. (Hab 1:13). In due time He will interfere and establish His rule. In the meantime the church is given the responsibility to establish and spread his kingdom values on earth. The eyes of the Lord run to and fro in throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of the righteous. (II Chro 16:9). The eyes of the Lord are in every place ,keeping watch on the evil and the good. (Pro 16:3).

FLAMING EYES

The only book in the Bible that describes the appearance of Christ, the glorified Saviour, the lamb of God and the lion of Judah, says His eyes like a flaming fire is the Book of Revelation to John. (Rev 1:14; 2:18; 19:12). We whose eyes are pure can see God, says Jesus to His disciples while on earth. (Mt5:8). All materials in our lives which are not fire proof will be consumed in the presence of Christ. He that has conquered death and hell cannot stand unholiness. While it is still  the era of Grace, let us prostrate at His feet and embrace them so that the consuming fire only refines us and not consume! It is time for the body of Christ to awaken and do the works in accordance with the faith we profess and practice!!
